Closing force sensor protects moulds from damage

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 11, 2006

The force required to close a mould is an important parameter that needs to be monitored and controlled to protect the mould from damage

With the new strain transmitter Type 9238A, Kistler now offers a sensor that combines the measuring element and the electronics in a single housing.

It measures both the small forces during mould movement and large forces during mould closure.

The transmitter is easily mounted with just one M6 screw.

The built-in electronics have two signal outputs providing parallel signals representing the force during tool movement and the closing force.

This allows simple integration into the moulding machine's control system.

Both measuring ranges and other functions, such as signal inversion and signal offset, can be preset with the software supplied.

Combining the sensor and electronics in one package makes the assembly robust and provides it with maximum protection under the tough conditions of routine production.
