System monitors weld quality

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 4, 2007

Kistler's 5825A2 welding and fastening monitor allows on-site monitoring, analysis and optimisation of metal joining equipment in the production environment.

The 5825A2 welding and fastening monitor from Kistler Instruments is an easy to use, battery powered measuring system for analysing joining methods such as spot welding, clinching and riveting.

Combined with the Type 9831A welding force calibration sensor, the new instrument allows on-site monitoring, analysis and optimisation of metal joining equipment in the production environment.

The analyser measures and records the force-versus-time and force-versus-distance curve for post-cycle evaluation directly on the production machine.

When monitoring welding, the analyser plots electrode force against time.

In fastening mode, suitable inserts in the welding force calibration transmitter enable the instrument to record and analyse the clinching or riveting force curve.

In addition, in voltmeter mode, the analyser operates as a digital voltmeter with an input range of +/-5V to display the output of a calibration transmitter.

The new welding and fastening monitor is a portable and effective method of in situ performance monitoring of welding clinching and riveting machines, setting up production machines for new operations, calibrating spot welding and joining equipment and optimising welding and joining cycle times.
