Sensors monitor cavity pressure

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 4, 2007

Kistler has introduced a range of mould cavity sensors using HighSens technology to measure cavity pressures with sensitivity four times higher than standard sensors.

The increasing popularity of foam moulding technology to reduce component weight and the incidence of voids have created a need for highly sensitive pressure sensors for monitoring cavity pressure.

Typically, cavity pressure for compact injection moulding processes can be around 400bar, while the pressure for foam moulding can be as low as 40bar.

Conventional pressure sensors are unsuited to low cavity pressure monitoring and Kistler has introduced a range of mould cavity sensors using HighSens technology to measure cavity pressures with sensitivity four times higher than standard sensors.

The Type 6178 has a diameter of 2.5mm while the Type 6177A measures 4mm and the Type 61772A measures 6mm.

Each model provides reliable resolution of the pressure profile down to 40bar.

All types are compatible with existing wiring and electronic equipment.
