Sensor measures peak and average torque
The Type 4503A dual-range sensor has a peak range and a second, lower range with resolution to provide accurate measurement of the operating torque.
Kistler Instruments' Type 4503A torque sensor can measure both peak and average operating torques with a high degree of accuracy Extreme ratios of high peak to moderate operating torque occur during starting and abrupt deceleration or braking of presses and elevators

Melt pressure sensors aimed at extrusion process
The Kistler melt pressure sensors, types 4086/87A and 4096/97A, are designed for measuring pressure in the extrusion process.
Torsional vibration encountered in combustion engines, pumps and compressors can also create potentially damaging peak loads.
To measure peak values, conventional sensors have to be designed to withstand the peak torque without overload damage.
This means that the signal resolution is inadequate for accurate measurement at the much lower levels of torque experienced during normal operation.
The Type 4503A dual-range sensor overcomes this problem by being robust enough to withstand the peak torque and having two independent ranges; a peak range and a second, lower range with resolution to provide accurate measurement of the operating torque.
Models with rated torques between 0.2 and 5000Nm are available, with the option of range ratios of 10:1 or 5:1 from 1Nm.
Accuracy is +/-0.1% of the peak torque range and +/-0.2% of the operating torque range.
An optional version offers an enhanced linearity of 0.05%.
Power is supplied and the measurement signals transferred between the rotating shaft and the case without contact, making the new sensors suitable for operating speeds of up to 50,000rev/min.
The DC supply and the calibrated signal outputs of +/-10V facilitates integration into existing test stand systems.
There is also a serial data interface available.
