Kistler unveils indirect cavity pressure sensors

A Kistler Instruments product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 16, 2009

Kistler Instruments has applied its single-wire technology to a range of sub-miniature, indirect cavity pressure sensors.

The sensors, mounted behind the ejector pin, measure cavity pressure by using the force on the pin and its cross-sectional area.

The sensors use the same piezoelectric technology as Kistler's direct measuring pressure sensors and have a virtually unlimited service life at operating temperatures of up to 200C.

The single-wire, on-site replaceable cable can be cut to length after installation and several cables can be passed down a single bore, making multi-sensor installation simple.

These single-wire sensors are compatible with the Kistler multi-cable system that allows up to eight sensors to be connected to a multi-connector mounted on the mould.

A single multi-core cable is then used to connect to the Kistler multi-channel monitoring system equipped with the Unisens system, which simplifies system configuration by giving the same sensitivity to all the sensors.

The single-wire technology system is space-efficient in multi-cavity moulds and has resulted in one installation with 112 pressure sensors mounted in a single, multi-cavity mould.
