No waiting for prototype parking system

KLN Klein Product Development has produced the prototype of a special touch-screen/ticket-printing console for iValet Systems.

A new generation of parking management systems, that will make hunting, waiting, and fighting for parking spaces obsolete, even during peak parking periods, and that is being developed by iValet Systems, has reached another milestone in its creation.

With the assistance of KLN Klein Product Development the prototype of a special touch-screen/ticket-printing console has just been completed.

The console, an electronic equivalent of a well informed and helpful parking attendant, is equipped with full-colour LCD touch-screen, printer, camera, speaker and microphone.

It offers parking patrons the choice of parking spots, based on vicinity to the desired destination and price, and then issues a ticket with the parking space assignment and the directions to easily locate that spot.

The unit is robustly built, yet lightweight (aluminium construction), with a hinged access door that allows easy installation and maintenance of all the internal components while keeping them secure through a double-lock mechanism.

All components mount very quickly, including a backlit sign at the front top of the console.

KLN's turnaround time for this project, which included the design engineering and the manufacturing of the prototype enclosure, was just five weeks.

"This amazingly short turnaround time was only possible through our expertise with industrial enclosures and human-machine-interfaces, particularly our prior experience with parking meters and vending machines, and the unique and tight integration of our own, in-house multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing resources", says Dominic Wong, Chief Mechanical Design Engineer of KLN.
