Grease reduces need for relubrication
A major furniture manufacturer approached Kluber with a problem on its calendars which are in continuous use for heat setting of laminate to MDF/chipboard.
Up until recently the company had been lubricating these bearings with a grease at the rate of 1.2kg per day.
As a result of exposure to high temperatures (180-200C), and high loads (5500lb/in2), the grease was breaking down far too readily, and in turn was no longer protecting the bearings from failure.
Due to this inadequate lubrication, the bearings were collapsing at a rate of one every 9-12 months, at a cost of around GBP 10,000 per breakdown.
With this information to hand, Kluber surveyed the situation and put forward an alternative lubricant, namely Barrierta L55/2.
Since switching to this grease the company is now using only 2kg per month as opposed to 36kg.
The grease is still white in colour with no sign of breakdown what so ever.
This simple switch has reduced lubricant usage, reduced labour costs on maintenance and increased productivity. Request a free brochure from Kluber Lubrication GB ...
