Kluber has solution for rear wheel bearings

A Kluber Lubrication GB product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 2, 2008

Following a number of enquires from of motorcyclists for help with their rear wheel bearings, Kluber has offered a solution.

Rear wheel bearing failures appeared to be commonplace, some of which resulted in the rear wheel locking up while in motion.

On inspection of the bearings supplied for analysis it was found the outer deep groove ball bearings showed signs of corrosion from water ingress, and fretting corrosion and the high -peed needle bearings showed no signs of lubricant and bearing breakdown.

Since the standard bearings for these applications are supplied with a standard grease that can only be re-greased by a day's labour and removal of the rear assembly, Kluber recommended the use of Kluberplex BEM 34-132 for the deep groove ball bearings and Microlube GL262 for the needle bearing.

Both these products are designed specifically for these types of applications where there is a possibility of water ingress, high speed and vibration, all issues which can greatly reduce bearing life.
