Klubersynth UH1 6-220 reduces energy consumption

A Kluber Lubrication GB product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 6, 2009

Kluber has revealed that following a trial of Klubersynth UH1 6-220 in the process department of a UK brewery, it has been asked to carry out a similar trial in the small pack department.

The small pack department consists of three bottling lines and three canning lines incorporating a total of 1,078 SEW conveyor gearboxes.

Kluber and the brewery engineers identified a trial gearbox, and amp measurements were taken three times a day over a five-day period with the previous lubricant to act as a baseline.

The oil was replaced with Klubersynth UH1 6-220 and the exercise repeated.

After the five-day trial had been completed, the energy consumption had reduced from 1.58A to 1.25A, a reduction of 0.33A.

This equates to a 20.9 per cent energy saving compared with the previous product.

By converting over to the NSF H1 registered Klubersynth UH1 6-220 the brewery met its food grade compliance policy.

Oil drain intervals can be extended to at least five years.

Savings on maintenance time and waste oil disposal were not calculated.

A 20.9 per cent reduction in energy across all 1,078 gearboxes generates a saving in energy alone in excess of GBP100,000.

The brewery has since agreed to convert all 1,078 conveyor gearboxes over to Klubersynth UH1 6-220 during a phased two-year period.
