Synthetic oil improves compressor efficiency

A Kluber Lubrication GB product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 9, 2009

A brick manufacturing company is using Kluber Summit SH46 synthetic compressor oil to improve the efficiency of its air compressors.

The company was previously running Compare 6075 air compressors filled with a mineral oil supplied by the service engineers.

Unfortunately, it was deemed the compressors were not running efficiently due to the mineral oil and the company decided to seek Kluber's advice to assist in improving this situation in order to meet a reduction in overheads through efficiency drives.

Kluber introduced a synthetic compressor oil, Kluber Summit SH46, and at the next service interval the service engineers were instructed to flush and refill the compressors with the new synthetic oil.

The implementation of the Kluber Summit SH46 compressor oil meant that over a two-month evaluation period in comparison to the same two-month period in the previous year, there was a significant reduction in energy consumption of 3,000KWh.

In addition to the energy savings, further savings will be gained by extending the oil change intervals from 2,000 hours to 8,000 hours, which in turn reduces the amount of lubricant purchased, plus maintenance and service costs.

As a result of increased wear protection fewer spares will be required.

The synthetic oil also provides a reduction in operating temperature, which has a knock-on effect on the amount of vapour carry-over, which leads to fewer lubricant top-ups.
