Kane Computing has a new version of the PL-A642 Pixelink Megapixel FireWire colour camera in the UK, featuring improved image quality and better performance in low light conditions The PL-A642 offers high-resolution megapixel capacity with the convenience of FireWire (IEEE1394) connectivity to capture low latency video streams and digital still images

It is ideal for microscopy, medical, biometric systems and photo ID systems.

The camera captures real-time uncompressed video while maintaining uncompromising video and digital still-image quality.

The CMOS image sensor has a high resolution 1.3Mpixel array (1280 x 1024pixel) and can capture up to 14frame/s at 1280 x 1024pixel resolution and 30frame/s at 640 x 480pixel.

The FireWire digital interface simplifies installation, eliminating the need for framegrabbers.

The FireWire cable carries video data, camera commands and power.

The developers kit offers an extensive application program interface (API).

This API is designed to simplify the most common tasks associated with configuring and controlling the CMOS image sensor.

Software developers can easily adapt existing programs or develop new imaging applications quickly.

The API provides control for gamma correction, signal gain, exposure time, imager subwindow size and position, image flip and mirror as well as data size and datarate.

Third party applications are supported via three industry standard software interfaces DirectShow, Twain and QuickTime.

A monochrome version the PL-A641 is also available, together with OEM board cameras, the PL-A633 and PL-A634 based on the same technology but with machine vision headers to connect to external devices such as flash, external triggers or any I2C capable device.

Kane Computing also offers a number of third party software packages and bundles to support the Pixelink cameras including image management/database bundles, image analysis libraries, microscopy software, recording and storage software and machine vision packages.
