Compact panel is mount-anywhere HMI

A Kontron UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 6, 2007

Panel PC forms a complete HMI system for applications that require easy installation via the rear of the machine.

Kontron has released the latest and smallest member of its slimline Micro Client family of panel PCs.

With a touch-screen display of only 7in, the space-saving and versatile Kontron M@C 70 offers scalable Intel Celeron performance and a host of interfaces in an easy-to-mount and flexible design.

The new Micro Client M@C 70 is an extremely compact and slimline (installation depth less than 50mm) panel PC that is less expensive than a full-fledged IPC but still offers sophisticated graphics, intuitive GUIs and touch-screen operation on a 800 x 480 TFT display.

Designed with flexibility in mind, this panel PC provides scalable performance up to the Celeron M 600MHz processor for use as either a thin client, web client, user terminal or controller.

The Kontron M@C 70 is a flexible solution with two 10/100 Ethernet interfaces, two USB 2.0 interfaces, one RS232 interface with optional RS422/RS485 as well as optional CANbus.

Power supplies ranging from 11.4 to 28.8V ensure safe and direct connection to industrial power systems, making the M@C 70 ideal for a wide range of applications in machine and system manufacturing, vehicle engineering, building management systems, medical technology and transportation to name just a few.

As a complete all in one HMI system, the M@C 70 Micro Client panel PC is also a model choice for point of sale, point of information, stand alone kiosks and other applications that require easy installation via the rear of the machine.

In addition, traditional panel mounting as well as VESA mounting, make the compact and versatile Kontron M@C 70 the truly mount-anywhere panel PC.

Shock and vibration resistance, thermal stability and compliance with the strictest EMC standards are standard features of this 7in display panel PC, as is long term availability of at least 5 years.

Windows CE.net, Windows XP Embedded and Embedded Linux are also available as standard, along with numerous protocols, including http, XML and Remote Desktop Protocol.

Panel PCs with all the application programs running on a central (web) server are very low-maintenance and highly flexible.

The advantages of this thin client architecture include centralised administration and software maintenance, maximum data security through centralised data storage and backup, and high reliability and availability (high MTBF values) through the elimination of rotating mass storage devices and fans, which reduces the total cost of ownership to the minimum.
