David retired as COO of Thomson Corporation at the end of 2006 where he led vital initiatives focused on leveraging assets and driving operational effectiveness across the enterprise, he also sat on the Thomson Corporation Board of Directors.

Chris Forbes, CEO of Knovel said: "David brings Knovel years of experience in managing companies that have successfully delivered high value information and productivity solutions to end users".

"We look forward to his guidance as Knovel takes the next steps to dominate the engineering information market".

David Shaffer continued: "I am excited to join a company that is a passionate leader in driving value for end users in this large and important market".

Knovel is continuing to innovate in the changing environment of the technical information area, and is re-organising engineering functions and the Knovel management team to ensure that the right resources and expertise are focused on the development of the new Knovel platform.

The new platform will address how engineers work to create, gather, and use information.
