Spline shafts now available in steel

A Kerk Motion Products product story

Featuring three times the stiffness of Kerk's aluminium spline shafts, the company's steel spline shafts are designed for heavier side loads and applications with rough handling.

Kerk Motion Products has expanded its spline shaft series with the introduction of its new steel spline shafts.

Featuring three times the stiffness of Kerk's aluminium spline shafts, the steel spline shafts are designed for heavier side loads and applications with rough handling.

Ideal solutions for a variety of motion control applications, the steel spline shafts are perfect for medical sampling and dispensing systems, material handling, business equipment, assembly machinery and positioning systems for semiconductor process tools.

Kerk's low-cost spline shafts offer a wide range of benefits, including extended life and low friction in any application that requires a rotary drive with adjustable position or a linear guide with high torsional stability.

In an application currently using a ball spline, hex-, square- or D-shaft, the spline shafts can provide a lower cost alternative without sacrificing positional accuracy.

Because of their low-friction performance, Kerk's spline shafts allow users to downsize certain process equipment, including motors, reducing heat buildup and energy requirements.

The steel spline shafts' assembly consists of a surface-hardened steel spline shaft treated with Kerk's proprietary, low-friction TFE coating, coupled with a graphite and PTFE-filled thermoplastic bushing, which is manufactured with an integral brass collar to facilitate mounting configurations without nut distortion.

The TFE coating eliminates the need for external lubrication and maintenance.

Kerk's steel spline shafts are dimensionally interchangeable with Kerk's aluminium spline shafts, simplifying design, part specification and inventory.

Kerk's steel and aluminium spline shafts are available with any combination of the following standard features: basic or antibacklash bushing, plain or thread mount bushing, and 0.25, 0.375, 0.5 or 0.75in diameter shaft.

Custom machining of both the bushing and rail is available for mounting considerations, or to adapt to any required format.

Standard lengths up to 24in are offered, and lengths up to 96in are also available on a custom basis.

Aluminium spline shafts are available in hollow configurations.
