Flowmeter clearly keeps wine on the list
Wine makers around Europe can drink a toast to the clear advantages of reliability and low maintenance offered by Krohne's H250 flowmeter.
Wine makers around Europe can drink a toast to the clear advantages of reliability and low maintenance offered by Krohne's H250 flowmeter which plays a key role in centrifuges used to clarify their wine.
Alfa Laval, the world's largest supplier of separation solutions, is using H250 flowmeters in a range of solids-ejecting centrifuge modules.
The centrifuge modules, manufactured at Alfa Laval's plant in Tumba, Sweden, are particularly popular in beverage applications, and are employed by wine producers and fruit juice manufacturers around the globe for separating liquids and removing solids.
Each module is equipped with a timer triggered solids discharge, and is used to suspend solids with particle sizes from approximately 0.5 to 500 microns.
Krohne's H250 plays a crucial role within each module.
Flanged to the vertical inlet pipe, the H250 accurately records the flow of liquid entering the centrifuge.
If the flow is too rapid the separation of the liquid could prove ineffective.
By providing the machine operator with an accurate recording of the flow rate, the settings of the centrifuge can be adjusted accordingly.
Safety is also a core function of the H250.
If the flow to the centrifuge stops, the meter will send a signal to a control panel which emits an alarm and sets the centrifuge in stand-by position.
This avoids costly damage to the centrifuge caused by allowing it to run dry for long periods.
Sales Manager for Brewery Centrifuges, Patrik Brehmer, comments, "We've experimented with other brands of flowmeters but have always found H250s to be the most reliable and maintenance free.
They are particularly suited to this kind of application as they are hygienic, reasonably priced and provide accurate results".
Since their introduction almost 80 years ago, Krohne's VA flowmeters have evolved from purely mechanical devices into advanced versatile systems.
The H250 is now widely recognised as the industry standard for VA flowmeters with over 2 million units sold worldwide.
They deliver accurate and reliable results for both liquids and gases and can be utilised in the widest range of applications including chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries, analysis and process engineering.
They are particularly popular in the water treatment and food industries.
The H250's modular construction enables simple plug-in upgrading of optional features such as limit switches, flow totalisers, high temperature adapter and transmitters, without any need for recalibration, reducing process interruption and downtime.
With all wetted parts in stainless steel or Hastelloy, the H250 is suitable for process gas or liquid temperatures up to 200C as standard (300C with HT adaptor), standard pressure ratings of 16 or 40bar, and flow rates from 25 to 100,000 litre/h water, or 0.7 to 600mü air, 10:1.

The ESK transmitters for the H250 are all Hart smart and can be supplied with a Profibus PA interface, enabling easy integration into sophisticated digital process control systems.
Information on higher temperatures or pressure versions is available on request.
