Krohne has been selected as a frame agreement supplier for flow and level instrumentation on one of the world's biggest oil and gas developments, the Karachaganak project in Kazakhstan The Karachaganak project is a joint venture between four leading international companies - BG, Eni, ChevronTexaco and Lukoil - to develop the giant gas condensate and oil field in Western Kazakhstan, which will produce more than 7 million tonnes of liquids per year

The giant Esso oil refinery at Fawley near Southampton is employing ultrasonic flowmeters from Krohne to streamline part of its process operation
Krohne has already successfully completed two contracts for Bechtel and Snamprogetti as part of the Karachaganak project, supplying over US $1.2 million worth of flow and level equipment.
The first contract involved supplying equipment for the new facilities and the order included Krohne's H250 variable area flow meters, Ultrasonic 500 flowmeters (UFMs) and BM70 radar level gauges, as well as a range of more basic instrumentation such as PD flowmeters, pitot flow tubes and level probes.
Krohne equipment is also playing a key role in the export pipeline project from Karachaganak to the CPC Pipeline at Atyrau, with the supply of four UFM 500s with 24in Hastelloy 1500 RTJ flanges.
Two of these units are being used for flow monitoring, and the other two are employed in leakage detection.
The comprehensive range of flow and level instrumentation available to Karachaganak contractors from Krohne also includes the BM 70 radar level meter and Krohne's H250 variable area meters.
The BM70 is approved by the PTB for use in intrinsically safe circuits EEx ia IIC and EEx ib IIC in accordance with ATEX (Approval No 1 Supplement to EC type approval PTB 99 ATEX 2061 X).
It is ideal for measuring the level of fluids with low dielectric constant such as organic solvents, benzene, toluene and hydrocarbons, and can also accurately measure low tank levels, due to its unique 'tank bottom' following function.
The H250 is the world's best-selling variable area meter and is ideal for process gas or fluid at temperatures up to 300C, pressures from 16 to 40bar, and flow rates from 2.5 to 100,000 litre/h (water) and 0.7 to 600m3/h (air).
Special versions to suit customer requirements, such as the high temperature H250s which measure flow at process temperatures up to 400C, and high pressure H250s for up to 500bar (dependant on flow tube size and temperature) are also available.
