Coriolis flowmeters cut plant downtime
Tessenderlo Fine Chemicals has reduced production downtime and improved the consistency of its products by revolutionary Optimass Coriolis flowmeters.
Tessenderlo Fine Chemicals has reduced production downtime and improved the consistency of its products by revolutionary Optimass Coriolis flowmeters Tessenderlo is the UK's number one manufacturer of esters and aromas, which are used in the production of air fresheners and soaps

The wax flowing through the flowmeter can vary in density from 0.8 to 1.0kg/litre and in viscosity from 5.5 to 1200cP.
Flowmeter measures challenging ingredient
By measuring mass flow Krohne's Optimass flowmeter is capable of accurately measuring de-ionised materials
During the manufacturer of its products, minute variations in the ratio of chemicals mixed can adversely affect their aroma or colour consistency, which can lead to batches of product being rejected.
Two of Wellingborough-based Krohne's Optimass flowmeters have been installed in separate feed lines between chemical storage tanks and a mixing vessel.
They measure precisely the flow of each chemical into the vessel and output a data signal to a control unit which then regulates the feed to between 0 and 500kg/h.
Older technology flowmeters previously used by Tessenderlo did not provide high enough accuracy.
Frequently alarms in production were triggered when sensors detected that the chemical mix was out of tolerance.
This completely shut down the manufacturing process until the problem had been resolved.
The previous flowmeters also had a split tube design, which introduced an airlock into the system when the chemical storage tanks ran dry.
This typically took maintenance teams up to an hour to rectify.
Optimass has a unique single, straight tube design that does not create air locks.
John Hartlebury, Site Electrical/Instrument Engineer at Tessenderlo, said: "The Optimass flowmeters have enabled us to improve our manufacturing process.
They have reduced our production downtime and helped us to produce consistent quality products.
They were also extremely straightforward for us to install".
