Flowmeters get to grips with effluent
measurement

A world-leading ingredients manufacturer has installed Krohne's electromagnetic flowmeters to measure more precisely the volume of effluent discharged from its plant so it can control water utility costs more accurately Companies can lose tens of thousands of pounds a year through inaccurate measurement of trade effluent which is pumped into sewers and charged for by utility companies

Flowmeters monitor waste water
Engineering consultants at the Wells Sanitary District waste water treatment facility replaced all the existing electromagnetic flowmeters with Krohne's Optiflux instruments.
Flowmeters standardise milk
GEA Westfalia Food Tec has chosen to use Krohne's Optiflux 6000 electromagnetic flowmeters in its Standomat automatic milk standardising unit.
The ingredients manufacturer's production plant operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
The effluent discharged by the plant can average 33,000m3 per month.
Previously the company used ultrasonic level in conjunction with a classic flume to measure effluent discharge.
However, these devices do not give a direct measure of flow and can result in a +/-3-5% error in reading - equating to a difference of 1500m3 per month.
The ingredients manufacturer has now installed two electromagnetic flowmeters from its preferred supplier Krohne, which improve measurement accuracy significantly.
The instruments are accurate to +/-0.3% - equating to just 11m3 per month.
"Using Krohne's flowmeters has improved significantly how accurately this company measures trade effluent", said Chris Ringer, Sales Manager for Krohne.
"Previously it used ultrasonic level but, given the volume of effluent that was generated and their low accuracy, the company could have been paying utility bills that are substantially different from the actual volume of effluent generated - and they would have never known that".
"By installing Krohne's electromagnetic flowmeters the company can now more accurately control its water utility costs".
Krohne's flowmeters are installed inline with the effluent discharge feeds.
They consist of a primary head, which is installed in the pipeline itself, and a signal convertor that is mounted on top of the primary head.
