DavyMarkham has appointed Kevin Parkin as its Managing Director to carry the enterprise forward and explore its global market potential.

A corporate name change having ushered in a new era for DavyMarkham, the Sheffield engineering company has now appointed Kevin Parkin as its Managing Director to carry the enterprise forward and explore its global market potential He brings broad-based management experience to the company, having worked in international contract engineering, chemical and process industries at MD level for the past twenty years

Qualified in engineering, finance and marketing, Parkin is passionate about injecting fresh adrenalin into DavyMarkham, building on the company's outstanding engineering heritage and making its reputation known at home and abroad.

The company will continue to service its existing customer base, at the same time seeking to penetrate international markets, where DavyMarkham has unique engineering solutions to offer.

"The skills on which this business was founded are still being developed through apprenticeships schemes and individual training programmes and we shall continue to invest in fine tuning these capabilities", says Parkin.

"I want to involve the whole workforce in focusing on what we do best and will be placing a high priority on world-class quality assurance and a continued commitment to employee health and safety".

"I also want us to help restore high tech manufacturing to its rightful place in the British economy and stop it being regarded as something of a dirty word", he adds.

Parkin and his DavyMarkham Chairman, Leif Salomonsen, place particular emphasis on employees being key stakeholders in the company's future and will be inviting union representatives to attend regular board meetings and contribute towards strategic business issues.

Formerly MD of Lipa Technologies of Doncaster, Parkin originally qualified in engineering and business at Huddersfield University, later gaining a postgraduate diploma in marketing at Bradford University.

A qualified accountant, he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants and a Fellow of the Institute of Marketing.

In previous management roles, he was responsible for regenerating a number of manufacturing companies, by rapidly identifying key business drivers and introducing accurate and up-to-date manufacturing information.

He has travelled extensively abroad on business, including a six-year spell commuting regularly to Paris.

Born and bred in Sheffield, Parkin has long taken an active interest in the city's proud engineering tradition, having attended the skills-based Central Technical School, a forerunner of today's city technology colleges, and often visiting the local Ernest H Hill factory, where his father was Works Director.

Currently living in Doncaster, he plans to relocate to Sheffield shortly, to be closer to DavyMarkham's Prince of Wales Road site.
