Virtual Control Laboratory from Kyle Data Services is a real time software package and interface to aid the teaching of basic control theory.
Virtual Control Laboratory from Kyle Data Services is a real time software package and interface to aid the teaching of basic control theory.
Running on a PC under Windows, the software provides a variety of test signals to drive a plant and graphically displays the measured outputs and other control signals.
A number of different controllers can be implemented in software allowing the students to investigate the behaviour of the plant and the effect of various control schemes.
With up to seven channels displayed simultaneously and a PC monitor, the input, output, error, drive and other signals can be seen and the effects of different controller strategies instantly observed.
Open-loop, Bang-bang, Servo and PID controller have been implemented.
As well as interfacing to real plant, simulated plant can be used to illustrate the difference between theory and practice.
With its ability to generate test signals, implement control schemes and display results, Virtual Control Laboratory can replace expensive instrumentation in a teaching environment.
As well as saving cost, the students are presented with an easy to use system which only involves pointing and clicking with the mouse.
In addition, measurements can be exported for analysis by other packages.
Once an experiment has been set up, the settings can be saved to disk so that the experiment can be re-run with minimum of effort.
Using either the IO-Brick or VIPS interface, the software can be used to control a wide range of servomechanism or process trainers.
Connection diagrams and configurations for popular training hardware is included.
The interface hardware can also be used with the Virtual Instrument and Virtual Logger software packages available from Kyle Data.
