Land Infrared has further increased the versatility of its System 4 on-line, non contact temperature measurement systems by introducing a new Fibroptic thermometer for low temperatures.

Offering unequalled measurement capabilities in its price range, the new M3 thermometer is capable of accurately measuring temperatures as low as 50C, utilising a fibre optics light guide which can be up to 3.5m long.

Designed for the measurement range 50 to 250C, the M3 thermometer is capable of measuring targets as small as 5mm at a distance of 100mm.

It has a response time of 100ms, and is accurate to within +/-3 C at 75C under recommended conditions.

The M3 will be particularly useful for temperature measurement applications where access is restricted, or where ambient conditions require the sensor to be mounted away from the electronics unit.

Its short operating wavelength of 2.1 is suitable for use with low emissivity metals, such as bright finish steel strip.

Known applications in this area include: continuous casting and under-strip temperature measurement at the cooling stage of the rolling mill, where water spray prevents a reliable measurement from above; and production and heat treatment of high performance metal components in the automotive and aerospace industries.

The M3 has all the standard System 4 features, such as three focus variants (100mm, 250mm and 500mm), three standard light guide lengths (1m, 2m, and 3.5m), and an industry-standard 4 to 20mA linear output.

It is compatible with all the System 4 fibre optics thermometer accessories, which include a cooling jacket for ambient temperatures above 50 degrees C, and an air purge to keep the optic head lens clean in the presence of dust, smoke or steam.

Land Infrared's System 4 range is designed to give the widest possible choice of performance and price to users of fixed, non contact temperature measurement.

System 4 has been proven under on-plant conditions in many industries, from metals, glass and refractories to food, paper, textiles and plastics.

Thermometer types include single wavelength and ratio (2-colour), in standard optics and fibre optics versions, each of which can be used with the System 4 signal processor most appropriate for the application: the simple, DIN-rail mounted Landmark Basic; Landmark Classic, which has a large digital display; or the Landmark Graphic, which is available in single- and multi-channel versions.
