Imagers keep watch on high-temperature
processes

Production engineers in minerals processing or metals cold rolling who need a temperature profile of their process should take a look at the new Landscan Pro LSP6 series process imager.

Production engineers in minerals processing or metals cold rolling who need a temperature profile of their process should take a look at the new Landscan Pro LSP6 series process imager from Land Instruments International Offering a high specification at a low cost, the new low temperature LSP6 series infra-red line-scanning systems have been designed for a wide range of industries, including two quite specific applications: monitoring the shell temperature of rotating kilns manufacturing cement, dolomite and similar minerals; and providing temperature distribution profiles of metals being cold rolled at less than 300C

Although they are very different, both applications share the fact that they are focused on a moving target object.

In the case of the kiln, the line scanner is able to depict and record the temperature of the whole circumference of the shell - continuously and in far greater detail than is possible with, for example, occasional spot checks using a handheld infra-red thermometer.

Other applications in the metals and mineral processing industries include conveyor belt protection and torpedo car and ladle safety.

Central to the system are the LSP60, LSP61 and LSP62 scanner heads, which can generate high speed temperature profiles at up to 100Hz in the measurement range 20 to 600C with an accuracy of +/-3C.

They have a wide scan angle of 80 degrees and a field of view of 100:1 (95% energy) maintained at all target distances.

LSP60 is intended for measurement of low temperatures in the range 20 to 250C; LSP61 covers mid range temperatures 50 to 400C and LSP62 the higher range of 100 to 600C.

These compact scanner heads can be installed where space is limited, and have a sapphire protection window for added durability.

A built-in Class 2 laser to define the scan plane and sighting angle is supplied as part of the package, making the initial setup quick and simple.

A complete range of mounting assemblies, water cooling and air purging options are also available - and the scanner head can be demounted for maintenance and put back in position without the need for realignment.

Completing the system is the new 19in rack mounted Landscan Control signal processor, which generates serial and Ethernet temperature data outputs that can interface to local process control or the new Landscan Configuration Professional and Landscan WCA software.
