Laser Design has expanded its Seattle technology office which is responsible for laser probe manufacturing, research and development, software engineering and worldwide customer support.

According to Bob Thoreson, Vice President of Engineering: "Having more manpower and resources in our Seattle office greatly improves the efficiency of our operation by bringing the product support function closer to the product developers".

The company recently moved its Seattle operations into a larger office in the Fremont area and installed several of its high-end scanning systems and an array of specialised test equipment there.

The larger office was needed in order to accommodate the additional machinery and growing staff in the area.

Jonathan Zora, Customer Service Manager, relocated recently from the Minneapolis office to Seattle.

He works directly with the developers to resolve customer problems quickly.

Thoreson said that Laser Design also hired a new production manager and senior software engineer to round out its team.

Laser Design's Seattle technology office continues to test new platforms for their laser scanning systems and integrate them with the best of breed.

Currently, Thoreson and his staff are working on a special project to improve the lasers' triangulation accuracy and data capture speed.

Other projects for advancing the technology are also on the docket.

The company eventually hopes to expand the role of the Seattle office to also provide contract laser scanning services.

Thoreson noted that the Seattle area was rich in terms of aircraft and high-tech manufacturing companies and that Laser Design was ideally suited to meet the area's increasing need for 3D laser scanning services and systems which help companies improve the quality of their products and bring innovations to market faster.
