Laser Design has announced that the Rapidform Livescan plug-in is now available for its line of Faro portable 3D laser scanners.

The plug-in allows users to scan directly into the Rapidform software package providing enhanced graphical feedback of the scanning process as data is collected.

When using the Rapidform plug-in while gathering scan data from the Faro arm, the user literally sees the point cloud being captured from the part in real-time as the scanning process proceeds.

The screen updates to the user's viewing angle as the arm is moved around the part.

This feedback allows the user to adjust the scanning speed and approach, as well as showing areas where the user needs to go back and gather more data.

Used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design's Surveyor line of automated and portable scanning systems are suitable for 3D scanning applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of complex plastic and metal parts.
