Auto-alignment in Six Axes

The F-206 Hexapod from Physik Instrumente is unique in that it provides six axes of motion from one platform with 12mm of linear travel and 10deg of rotary motion in each axis.

The automation of manufacturing processes in photonics packaging, and fibre optic applications requires the implementation of multiaxis positioning systems that combine up to six motorised linear and rotary stages As the complexity of the rig increases cross talk and backlash errors amplify, system control becomes difficult and, for rotational motion, the pivot point cannot freely be defined

The F-206 Hexapod from Physik Instrumente is unique in that it provides six axes of motion from one platform.

The system controller provides the ability to command true vector motion and programme the pivot point of the stage to be anywhere in free space.

Motion around the pivot point can be specified for any axis of rotation.

Automatic scanning and auto-alignment software routines provide powerful tools for the integration of the system into a manufacturing process.

The DC servo driven platform of the Hexapod provides 12mm of linear travel and 10deg of rotary motion in each axis.

The minimum incremental motion is 0.1mm, the repeatability is 0.3mm and the inter-axis cross talk is better than 1mm.

The operation of the Hexapod is based on six motor driven legs, the angle of which determine the position of the platform.

The digital controller is an industrial PC which houses motion control cards, a built in photometer, compatible with external metrology, and a motor power supply.

Algorithms to control each leg are installed on the PC.

Easy to use software provided with the system includes LabView Drivers, DLL Libraries and HexControl Scan and Alignment Software.

Other applications for the Hexapod include Optical Device Testing, Micro-machining, Micro-manipulation, Semiconductor Handling Systems, and Microsurgery. Request a free brochure from Lambda Photometrics ...
