Interferometers shrink to new tasks
A new range of interefrometers caters for measurements on the compact optics found in today's mobile phones, digital cameras, DVD players and endoscopes.
Zygo has been renowned for its Fizeau interferometers since the 1970s The Mark series and PTI systems are still in use in many optical workshops up and down the country

Viewing infrared wavelengths between 0.4-1.5microns, the converted image produced by the new 7215 is now brighter and offers edge to edge sharpness.
Infrared Imaging at Telecomms Wavelengths
The widely used Electrophysics 7290A Micronviewer Infrared camera has now been enhanced with increased sensitivity at both 1310nm and 1550nm.
These systems are based on 4in apertures, although 6, 12, 18, 24 and 32in systems are available also.
However, many optics such as those used in mobile phones, digital cameras, DVD players, endoscopes, contact lenses and laser components are considerably smaller than 4in.
Although the Mark and GPI systems do offer a 6x zoom and in extreme cases the use of a 4 to 1in aperture convertor as well it does not present an elegant and cost effective solution for small optics manufacturers.
To overcome these issues Zygo has introduced the PTI 250 series of Fizeau interferometers with 25mm aperture.
These systems are supported by a full range of new accessories including seven transmission spheres, radius of curvature measurement and an aperture converter to reduce down to 6 mm if needed.
The PTI 250 mainframes come in four varieties to suit most users' needs.
There is a visual inspection only system, which is the lowest cost option.
There are also two "phase" based systems.
One uses standard "phase" which uses piezo modulators and gives the highest repeatability.
The other uses Zygo's new FlashPhase technology which allows interferometers to be used where standard "phase" won't work, ie where there is severe vibration or turbulence.
These two systems use a new fixed production graphical user interface (GUI) that provides the results production needs.
The final system uses standard "phase" and FlashPhase with the full-blown MetroPro GUI software that can be used for R and D or process development.
All the systems are Fizeau interferometers, which means they work the same way as all the other Zygo interferometers and hence will correlate with all the other Zygo systems out there. Request a free brochure from Lambda Photometrics ...
