Lambda Photometrics has launched a C-band tuneable laser from Luna Technologies.
Based on proprietary compact external cavity MEMs laser technology, the Phoenix1400 is claimed to provide wavelength precision and tuning linearity.
This is said to make it suitable for telecommunications testing and measurement, as well as a variety of other applications including optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) systems, Fibre-Bragg sensing, metrology, near-infrared spectroscopy and tomography, heterodyne measurements and fibre component characterisation for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM).
The laser covers the 1,515nm to 1,565nm waveband and features integrated dual-channel power meters, sweep and retrace triggers and a graphical interface.
The integrated wave meter is intended to ensure wavelength accuracy.
The Phoenix1400 includes software development tools for easy integration into custom research-and-development and manufacturing application environments.
The laser is part of a family of products, including the basic Phoenix1000 laser package for original equipment manufacturer customers and the forthcoming Phoenix1200 module with an integrated wave meter and driver.
All are based on the intellectual property rights and manufacturing equipment of the former Iolon 'Apollo' lasers, purchased by Luna in December 2006.
The Phoenix1400 will be shown at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) (booth 734) in San Diego on 24-26 March 2009.
