BP has purchased a global 'run-only' licence for the operation of Lanner Group's advanced simulation and modelling tool Witness.

BP has purchased a global 'run-only' licence for the operation of Lanner Group's advanced simulation and modelling tool Witness.

Witness is used by all five of BP's main businesses - Upstream, Gas and Power, Downstream, Chemical and Solar.

The tool is used to build models of new facilities and processes to aid investment decision-making, and of existing facilities to remove bottlenecks and optimise operations in existing facilities.

BP is using Witness to model onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities from reservoir to point of sale terminals, crude oil transportation (pipelines) and marine terminals, oil shuttle tanker operations, refinery and chemical plant offsites including jetty facilities and road tanker gantry systems.

Steve Burchell, from the Integrated Business Modelling Team at BP's Upstream Technology Group, says: "BP has been using the Development version of Lanner's Witness for almost ten years as it offers both discrete and continuous modelling capabilities, able to model multiple fluid streams.

With the one-off purchase of a worldwide licence it enables us to transfer the developed model to the businesses for them to use and extract greater value.".
