The contest is open to residents in Europe and North America and challenges design engineers to demonstrate how machines and devices can be network-enabled using a Lantronix Wiport wireless embedded device server.
The Wiport can add 802.11b wireless networking to any device with a serial interface.
Chris Humphrey, Senior Vice President of Marketing, said: "We hope that this contest helps to inspire engineers everywhere to explore creatively the endless possibilities of wireless connectivity".
To participate, design engineers must register their product idea online and develop their design or prototype using a Wiport.
The completed prototype must be submitted to Lantronix, along with any supporting documentation, by 15th March 2006.
Eligible contestants will also be included in random monthly drawings with the opportunity to win prizes such as a Sony Playstation Portable.
The first 50 registered contestants are eligible to receive a 50 per cent discount on the purchase of a Wiport development kit.
Winners will be announced at the 2006 Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, California, which takes place from 2nd to 7th April 2006.
