Server module allows embedded wireless 802.11

A Lantronix product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 12, 2007

MatchPort b/g is an embedded module that enables 802.11 wireless connectivity and web services on any device with a serial interface on its host microcontroller.

Lantronix has released MatchPort b/g, the company's third generation, full-featured, secure, embedded wireless 802.11 b/g networking device server module.

With the MatchPort b/g, OEM manufacturers can easily design-in standards compliant, secure 802.11 b/g wireless connectivity, giving their products mobility and remote management capabilities.

MatchPort b/g is suited to a variety of vertical applications, including telematics/transportation, security access control, building/industrial automation, medical, retail/POS and power/utilities metering.

The first in a family of form-factor and pin-compatible wireless and wired device networking platforms, MatchPort b/g enables OEMs to future-proof their product with a flexible solution to match their price and performance requirements.

Future additions to the MatchPort family will include a wired and a higher performance wireless version, allowing OEMs to design in the appropriate level of device networking connectivity as their needs dictate without having to redesign their end device.

These additional new products are set to be released in the second half of 2007.

"The explosive growth of WiFi technology in both corporate and consumer markets is ushering in a new era of 'untethered' device networking applications", said Marc Nussbaum, CEO of Lantronix.

"OEMs need a solution that is easily designed-in guaranteed to be compatible with industry standards and affordable".

"Until now, OEMs requiring lower cost wireless solutions, had to settle for proprietary analogue RF transmission solutions such as 900MHz technology for their high-volume product designs".

"With the price/performance and power consumption breakthroughs of the MatchPort embedded device networking module, these proprietary solutions can be replaced, making the OEM's device compatible with ubiquitous, low-cost WiFi access points and standard web browser software".

"With MatchPort b/g, Lantronix continues to lead the industry through innovation and a commitment to ongoing improvement in the affordability of WiFi device networking".

MatchPort b/g is an embedded module that enables 802.11 wireless connectivity and web services on any device with a serial interface on its host microcontroller.

The module features a dual-processor design, with one processor dedicated to the conversion of wired serial data into TCP/IP packets and delivering web server capabilities, while the other being an 802.11 b/g baseband and radio chipset.

Its built-in web server enables remote device configuration, monitoring and control via multiple web pages.

It also provides the ability to scan and report wireless network parameters.

To ensure the safety and integrity of enterprise information throughout both the wireless and wired path, the MatchPort b/g supports the IEEE-ratified 802.11i/PSK, the highest data encryption available for wireless products and WPA-PSK authentication (WiFi Protected Access-PreShared Key).

It also provides optional end-to-end AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption and is FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard)-197 compliant.

With its complete application software solution suite and transferable FCC modular certification, OEMs gain a turnkey solution with MatchPort b/g to achieve rapid time to market with minimal engineering effort.

In addition, Lantronix Windows-based deployment software ensures both rapid and cost-effective onsite MatchPort networking deployment.
