Engine blow-by flowmeter spans three ranges
The latest ECM engine blow-by flowmeter covers a measurement range that previously required three separate devices.
The latest ECM engine blow-by flowmeter covers a measurement range that previously required three separate devices.
Developed and manufactured in the UK specifically for Labcell, the BB400MR flowmeter has a range of 4 to 400 litre/min and changeover from one range to another is fast and simple.
This development will be welcomed by engine developers and test houses who have previously had to purchase separate blow-by meters and spend time swapping them when different measurement ranges were required.
The capital cost for the single multirange instrument is significantly less than that for three different units from either ECM or any competitor.
Longer-term, the savings that accrue through faster changeovers and reduced servicing and calibration costs will also be considerable.
As with the existing ECM blow-by meters, the new BB400MR operates using the vortex-shedding principle that gives fast response and is insensitive to the variation in temperature, pressure and viscosity of the blow-by gases.
Furthermore, there are no moving parts so the instrument is easy to clean and service, as well as being highly reliable.
Accuracy is quoted as 1% and repeatability is 0.5% of reading, with the operating mode either being as a flowmeter or a flow totaliser.
Suitable for measuring blow-by on spark-ignition or compression-ignition engines, the versatile BB400MR will find applications ranging from small utility engines through race-tuned engines to large industrial powerpacks.
Users can choose to collect readings from either the 0-5 V programmable linearised output or the RS232 port, the latter of which can also be used to configure the instrument from a PC.
The meter also features a large, clear LED display which gives an at-a-glance readout for test cell operators in a choice of engineering units.
All BB400MR instruments are delivered precalibrated and any subsequent calibration or service requirements are offered within the UK to minimise turnaround time and disruption.
