Lambda's Alpha passes its Medical
Lambda introduces low leakage medical filter options for Alpha switched-mode power supplies.
Lambda introduces low leakage medical filter options for Alpha switched-mode power supplies Power supplies employed in medical or critical life systems must adhere to the most stringent safety and reliability regulations For its part, Lambda, the Ilfracombe-based power supply manufacturer, has introduced low leakage medical filter options for its Alpha switched mode power supply range, ensuring that the units are approved to EN60601, IEC-601 and UL2601 medical and dental specifications

Single-output unit delivers concentrated power
Lambda has introduced a new single-output version of its 1000W Alpha, making it the most versatile configurable power supply available with a full range of power levels from 400W to 1000W
250W power supply gives users greater flexibility
Flexi Sirius from Lambda, the world's number one power supply manufacturer, is the latest addition to the company's range of advanced configurable power supplies.
Three variants of the medical filter are available; LL (Low Leakage), RL (Reduced Leakage) and TL (Tiny Leakage) options.
All are available for Alpha 400 and 600 power supplies.
For equipment that is not connected directly to a patient, the LL filter is recommended.
In this kind of application a maximum leakage current of 500mA at 230V/50Hz is permissible.
The LL device has a maximum leakage current of 0.2-0.3mA and a Y (line-to-ground) capacitance of 2.2nF.
The LL filter meets curve A EMC conducted limits.
For patient-connected systems, RL and TL filters provide the highest leakage current protection.
The RL filter features a maximum allowable leakage current of 132mA at at 230V/50Hz while the TL part is just 50mA.
Y capacitances are 1.0nF and 330pF respectively.
RL and TL require additional filtering to meet curve A EMC compliance which can be further discussed with Lambda.
For multiple power supply systems, RL and TL filters maybe used collectively to ensure that a total system leakage current is kept below 500mA for IEC-601/EN60601 approval.
With up to 14 outputs, Alpha's inherently flexible modular design means that for those customers whose voltage requirements lie beyond that of standard units, Lambda is able to provide a carefully matched solution that is easy to specify, easy to fit, easy to buy.
