Lambda's SM series of surface-mountable DC-DC converters has won one of the top accolades at this year's Wireless Design and Development's awards breakfast, recently held in San Jose, California Award winners are carefully chosen for their technological innovation, usefulness and unique design, three attributes that sum up the SM series perfectly

"The SM series is the industry's broadest line of surface-mountable DC-DC converters and was the first high power DC-DC light enough to be handled by conventional pick-and-place equipment," said Martin Southam, Lambda's UK sales director.

"We are justly proud of its capabilities and very pleased that the industry has recognised what it has to offer." By regulating heat dissipation through a special PC board material with 10 times the thermal transfer of FR-4, Lambda has managed to eliminate thermal encapsulation and the two-step potting process - techniques that made it impossible to build units of 10W or higher that were small enough to be placed by automated assembly equipment.

The addition of a new 30W model brings to 36 the total number of SM variants available, with single and dual output configurations over the 10W to 30W power range.

Supplied in a very low profile (0.4in high) surface mount package, SM DC-DC converters are ideally suited to tight card pitch requirements.

Its unique square design ensures compatibility with existing surface mount pick-and-place equipment, thereby minimising machine error.

The SM series features a 10ms start-up for hot-plug conditions, remote on/off for complex system timing requirements and 24V or 48V nominal inputs for wireless/cellular and central office telecom applications.

SM DC-DC converters are also ideal for powering telecommunications systems in broadband distribution, networking and switching applications, as well as industrial control and LAN/WAN equipment. Request free introductory details about products from Lambda ...
