A conference on "Exploring the potential of smart materials to increase product functionality and boost the bottom line" is to be held on Wednesday 12th November 2003, at City University London.

Commercial products increasingly contain smart materials, which will play a key role in developing new and enhancing existing technologies.

For example smart memory polymers could replace natural rubber, which is both expensive and difficult to recycle.

Further developments in disposability, reusability, reliability, and product lifetime might contribute to the success of new products.

This event brings together research professionals of leading engineering, biomedical, manufacturing, engineering design, automotive and domestic appliance companies, as well as senior research academics in mechanical, electronic, and chemical engineering, bioengineering and devices, physics, design and materials, providing an update of existing and future technologies in this emerging field.
