Hydraulic connector features three gripping bites

Legris is applying its experience in pneumatic technology to the area of high pressure hydraulics with the introduction of a guaranteed leak-free pipework connection system for DIN2353 couplings.
Launch of the three-bite DiNova cutting ring follows a major expansion by Legris into hydraulic components.
Unique features of the new system include metal-to-metal sealing, further sealing through PTFE seals, additional protection of the back seal during installation and a mechanical stop to confirm that the crimp has been properly achieved.
Leak-free hydraulic connections are essential not only for a clean working environment but for safety.
Even if the original seal is properly made, vibration can cause parts to move and fluid to escape.
At the least it can mean a greasy workplace, but in applications such as braking systems it can prove fatal.
Announcing the new DiNova system, Legris Managing Director Malcolm Crossley said that existing cutting rings have only partially addressed the problem.
"Many are only a double bite, others may not have an inbuilt alignment system for the tube, and many don't have visual confirmation that a secure connection has been made".
"If a pipe is jammed into the fitting, it can damage the seal and lead to a loss of integrity".
"The twin challenge has been to guarantee that components are secure through correct alignment and then properly sealed".
The new Legris DiNova cutting ring features three gripping bites, with metal to metal sealing within a 24 cone and additional sealing through two PTFE seals.
The softness of the PTFE material allows it to absorb any movement of the hydraulic connection while in use.
Further advantages of the PTFE seal allow repeated assemblies with no loss of performance, use with virtually all aggressive fluids, and in temperatures ranging between -40 and +200C.
A patented design also guarantees protection of the back seal during assembly, preventing pollution both within the sealing areas and of hydraulic circuits.
"Because the seal is often hidden during assembly of traditional hydraulic connectors, the user cannot tell if the connection has been properly made", said Malcolm Crossley.
"The DiNova ring has been designed with a mechanical stop to clearly indicate the crimp position".
All DiNova components - ring, body and nut - are lubricated to prevent the risk of seizing, to lower tightening torques and to offer better perception of the mechanical stop.
They are completely interchangeable with traditional cuttings rings and are Chromium 6 free in readiness for legislation taking effect in 2006.
