Pneumatic torque limiters provide full
protection

A new range of torque limiters with pneumatic actuation allows remote torque adjustment while the machine is running and full protection across the operating range.

Many modern machines are unable to take advantage of the protection offered by torque limiters Traditional mechanical torque limiters are not adjustable once the machine is running and have to be set to handle torque peaks such as those at startup

This makes them insensitive to overloads during normal running.

A new range of torque limiters with pneumatic actuation allows remote torque adjustment while the machine is running and full protection across the operating range.

Designed by Italian torque limiter specialist OMC, the pneumatic extension to the DSR range is available from Lenze for torques from 5 to 30,000Nm.

Intended for right-angle drives by plate wheels or gears, the range can also be adapted for inline shaft-to-shaft mounting.

The DSR pneumatic torque limiters are based on the principle of transmitting torque from one plate to another through rollers, which sit in recesses in the plates.

Axial force to hold the plates together is generated by a pneumatic piston.

Simplicity of use comes from the fact that there is a linear relationship between air pressure and torque transmitted.

When an overload occurs the rollers move out of their recesses causing the plate to open and this movement is detected by a microswitch.

On overload the torque limiter gives free release of the drive with no residual torque.

Normally these torque limiters are supplied with a 360-degree, once-per-revolution synchronisation, but they can also be ordered to synchronise in fractions of a revolution down to 36 degrees of rotation.

The most used benefits of these pneumatic torque limiters is the ability to set a high torque level for starting peaks and then a lower level for normal operation.

Beyond that other functions are possible, for example different settings for forward and reverse rotation, or varying the torque according to machine speed.

In addition, they can act as a disconnect clutch. Request a free brochure from Lenze ...
