Multi-axis servo systems made simple

The ECS servo system simplifies installation and programming for machines with up to 24 axes.

The new ECS servo system from Lenze simplifies installation and programming for machines from three to 24 axes At the centre of ECS is a power supply unit connected to a number of axis drive units which are available in six power ratings from 4 to 64A

The ECS servo system comes preconfigured for many different application areas.

These technology functions simplify the process of configuration and commissioning with versions for speed and torque control, positioning, speed linking and co-ordinated multi-axis operation.

Functions can be freely adapted using IEC61131-3 compliant languages.

Options include safe-standstill to EN954-1, touch probe positioning and monitoring of motor brakes.

The ECS concept of centralised power supply and axis drives with the same mounting dimension leads to cost savings.

Modules are compact and can be mounted side by side, saving panel space.

Matching brake resistors and capacitance units are available.

Only a single choke and filter on the input line are needed.

Pluggable power connections on the face of the drive reduce cabling costs.

Furthermore operation of the drives from the shared DC bus power connection allows energy saving when some of the axes are in regeneration mode.

ECS axis drives are fitted with two CAN connections.

Typically one might be used for connections to a motion controller which can be CNC, PLC or IPC based.

The other connection can be used for peripherals such as I/O units and HMI.

In addition to the CAN connections, a third position accepts modules such as a keypad or other fieldbuses, for example Profibus or DeviceNet.

The ECS servo system is matched by a range of Lenze synchronous servomotors.

The MCS range is available with body dimensions from 60 to 190mm square.

Construction with varying lengths of winding allow 14 standard variants with peak torques from 2.4 to 190Nm.
