Servo system promises real cost savings

A fundamental characteristic is the way that services, functions, software and communications can be combined in a precise format required by the customer.
This means customers pay only for the features they need, but still get full integration with other L-force products such as motors, I/O and HMI, and full traceability.
One area where the 9400 stands apart is the unique backplane installation concept.
The backplane is mounted separately from the drive and holds all the high voltage connections plus braking and the DC bus.
The drive body is then manually mounted to the backplane and locked into position by a lever, a process taking only seconds.
This saves build time for the panel, makes maintenance easier, and gives the assurance of less downtime should there be a failure.
Drive based safety is a new concept that is integrated in the 9400 servo drives.
Optional plug-in modules that meet international safety standards deliver functionality such as safe stop, safe standstill, safe inputs, safe parameter setting and the ability to communicate through a safety bus such as Profisafe.
These modules eliminate the need for external evaluation devices and isolators.
Signals from emergency switches, lightguards etc are connected directly to the drive resulting in lower costs, a simpler system and increased safety from shorter reaction times.
The 9400 servo system has CANopen system bus and a PC diagnosis port fitted as standard.
To this can be added plug-in modules for all the popular fieldbus systems such as DeviceNet, Profibus and Ethernet.
Where high speed communication is needed, for example multi-axis drives with interpolation, Lenze offers Ethernet Powerlink, a real-time fieldbus that is rapidly growing in acceptability.
High functionality and performance does not come with high complexity.
With new L-force Engineering software, Lenze has made the 9400 servo system particularly easy to use.
This software supports all phases of a machine project, from initial planning through to commissioning, where the built-in multichannel oscilloscope is a valuable tool.
Remote maintenance using Ethernet is possible too offering faster response for distant machines and possibly saving a visit by a service engineer.
The new Lenze 9400 servo system is available initially in a power range from 0.37 to 11kW but will shortly extend up to 400kW.
Highly dynamic synchronous servomotors, or asynchronous models with a wide speed range, are also available from the Lenze factories to match the drives.
The new servo system offers unique features such as plug in modules and the backplane installation which increase the productivity of the machine builder.
Drive based safety offers further savings in external controls while achieving higher performance.
