Lenze has won the contract to supply drive technology to car manufacturing giant DaimlerChrysler.

Lenze has won the contract to supply drive technology to DaimlerChrysler As a product partner, the company will be supplying the Mercedes Car Group (MCG) in the coming years with drive technology to be used in manufacturing passenger cars, right along the whole chain of production

The technology will drive such things as conveying systems and machines for bending metal.

Lenze products meet the new MCG standard, which now regulates production technology in the company's passenger car division.

This is a basic requirement for inclusion in any part of the MCG programme.

The new Mercedes C-class will be the first series model to be produced with Lenze's help in Bremen (Germany) and East London (South Africa).

Before the project could come to fruition, four years of intensive preparation was required.

Key account manager Matthias Thurn and two of his applications engineers made a significant contribution to that success.

They built up the contacts and with the help of other company divisions they then developed the right solution and products.

DaimlerChrysler were convinced by the range and flexibility of Lenze's products.

What particularly pleased them was the integrated safety technology, in the new 9400 series drives, secure communication, and the comprehensive portfolio of products all coming from one manufacturer.

Lenze frequency inverters and motor starters cover all applications with only two product families.

Only a single piece of software - L-force Engineer is required for parameterisation, programming and diagnostics.

Other important components in the overall package include geared motors, servomotors, automation solutions, accessories, and a specially tailored service package.

Long-term success in the collaboration with DaimlerChrysler does not solely depend on the products alone.

"The whole company has to respond", emphasises Dr Walter, head of Lenze's Automotive Division.

"Up to now, Lenze has only been involved in the car manufacturer's smaller projects".

"This comprehensive new long-term deal requires a sense of responsibility in all areas of the company".

"We have to be first-class in terms of delivery deadlines, quality, processing, logistics and production process".

Uwe Behme, Head of Electronics Production, sums up the importance of the project: "With DaimlerChrysler, it's like a football club being promoted to the premier league". Request free introductory details about products from Lenze ...
