Kernel collaboration aids 3D data
exchange
A recent survey showed that 3D data exchange is the most important issue as far as users are concerned in the world of solid modelling.

Ironcad: not re-creating dated 1980s thinking!
Are today's Solid Modellers productive tools, or have most CAD software vendors blindly copied dated 1980's modelling software which defeats many of the primary objectives of using CAD?
IronCAD is currently the only solid modeller in the world with two kernels.
This novel dual-kernel technology enables IronCAD to build hybrid models embodying features built using both the current ACIS and Parasolids modelling kernels.
Thus a model that cannot be modelled using a single kernel can often be built using IronCAD's kernel collaboration.
The user selects a default kernel to build the model, and where a feature is outside the scope of the default kernel, the other kernel will automatically switch in to complete the task.
Dual-kernel operation also means that an ACIS IronCAD model can be regenerated in Parasolids internally, and easily passed to a Parasolid based modeller as a native Parasolid file, and vice versa.
IronCAD also embodies highly sophisticated IGES and STEP translators.
The IGES translators are tailored for various 'brands' of IGES specific to other particular CAD and CAM software packages.
In addition there are specific translators for CATIA, STL, VRML, 3D Studio as well as AutoCAD DWG and DXF formats.
Now this novel technology is being expanded once again.
Version 5.2 of IronCAD will embody PTC's Granite One modelling kernel.
Granite One will enable IronCAD to exchange ACIS and Parasolid data to and from PTC's Pro/E solid modeller.
In version 6 Granite One will become another modelling option within IronCAD, working either on its own as a superior modelling option, and if possible, working in collaboration with the other kernels.
For users who just need good data exchange, this technology will be also present in Inovate, a low cost subset of IronCAD.
Although Inovate only offers modelling, and not draughting, Granite One, Parasolids and ACIS are all embodied in the package, offering users of ACIS and Parasolid based products an inexpensive way to exchange data to and from Pro/E.
