Leroy Somer UK introduces the Patay range of brake motors for heavy duty or safety-critical applications such as hoisting, handling, presses, funfair rides, lifts and escalators.
Leroy Somer UK introduces the Patay range of brake motors for heavy duty or safety-critical applications such as hoisting, handling, presses, funfair rides, lifts and escalators.
The Patay range brings together an electric motor and electromagnetic brake in one unit.
The brake allows the motor and load to be stopped in a pre-determined time in complete safety.
This reduces wear and tear and the risk of damage, and allows the load to be held even when the motor is not under power.
Patay Motors, part of the Leroy Somer group, has for many years specialised in the design and construction of brake motors, including custom built units for specific applications.
There are two main types of brakes available, rated from 25 to 2,400Nm braking torque and with IP44 ingress protection rating: the FCPL DC brake; and the FAP three-phase AC brake.
Eddy current brakes are also available.
The FCPL DC brake operates on a three-phase AC supply, and has a rectifier incorporated in its terminal box.
It features asbestos-free brake linings and provides braking torque of 75 to 2,400Nm and can be fitted to squirrel cage motors of types PLS, LS and FLS and to slip ring motors of type FLSB and PLSB.
Options include a manual brake release, brake release indicator and a second output shaft for an encoder or tachometer.
It is suitable for a wide range of applications including cranes, goods lifts, ski-lifts and funfair rides, as well as special applications such as timber machines.
The FAP AC brake can operate with a 230 or 400V supply and provides braking torque of 25 to 540Nm.
It can be fitted to squirrel cage motors of type LS or FLS and FLSB slip ring motors.
The FAP offers very short response times and also uses asbestos-free brake linings.
Options include IP55 ingress protection, manual brake release and a second output shaft.

Patay supplies four, six and eight pole squirrel cage brake motors and slip ring motors (with or without brakes) rated from 4 to 132kW.
The range comprises brushless, AC and DC motors with a wide range of options including types PB, LS, PLS, FLS, LS MV and FLSB, aluminium or cast iron housings,IP23 or IP55 ingress protection ratings, single or multi-speed, and vertical or horizontal axis mounting.
Patay also offers a selection of special motors for unusual applications such as submerged pumps and wind generators.
