The Electric Drive with Mechanical Simplicity
The new Varmeca is a motor with some simple but clever circuitry in the terminal box and a large knob on the outside with which to control the speed.
No coincidence that the motors are green
As the technology of motors, bearings, ventilation and design techniques continue to improve so will the efficiency of electric motors; Leroy Somer is determined to stay ahead in the race.
The UMV 3301 offers the choice of three control modes as standard - open or closed loop vector and voltage/frequency ratio.
Its integrated control systems can replace the control and regulation functions normally performed by industrial PCs or PLCs, and eliminates the constraints associated with the use of option cards.
This simplifies the control system, reduces the wiring and components required and increases reliability.

A more reliable brake motor design
Leroy Somer introduces the new FCR range of Brake Motors with power ratings from 0.25 to 132KW, a simple, inexpensive but reliable solution for stopping machinery quickly.
Floor cleaner motor cost cut by open frame design
When rotary floor cleaning machine manufacturer Truvox was developing its new Orbis range, the company turned to Leroy-Somer for the heart of the machine - the motor.
The control systems built-in to the UMV 3301 include a PID feedback loop controller, logic functions, comparators, torque control and an hour counter with alarm.
Speed feedback is by incremental encoder on a user-defined input.
The UMV 3301 is easy to adapt to the application, and simple to install, set up and use.
Parameters can be set via an English language console featuring a 32 character LCD display, downloaded from a PC using Leroy Somer's own Windows-compatible Pegase software, or input via a MODBUS serial link (other protocols can be accommodated on request).
For quick and easy start up, the user menu has the most commonly used parameters grouped together, and the number of variable parameters is limited.
The terminal block is reconfigurable if required, though the basic configuration is suitable for the majority of installations.
Inputs and outputs can also be reconfigured, with each terminal assignable to a specific function.
The I/O options available are four analogue inputs, five logic inputs, two analogue outputs, three logic outputs and three relay outputs.
The UMV 3301 has been designed with a wide range of industrial and commercial applications in mind, including lifting equipment, centrifuges, spin dryers, pumps, fans, compressors, hammer crushers, pulp presses and extrusion presses.
The range shares many common parts, reducing the spare parts inventory required, and availability is immediate or on short delivery times.
Leroy Somer also offers a full, design, build, test and commission service that integrates the speed controller in a complete system.
The UMV 3301 is one member of the Leroy Somer family of variable speed AC drives that cover the full range from 0.18kW to 500kW.
Its electronic soft starters are rated from 2.2kW to 900kW, while the DC drives range from 0.06kW to 2400kW.
The company has over 80 years in manufacturing a full range of motors, gearboxes and associated equipment for almost any application.
With the development of the UMV 3301 it has combined this experience with its expertise in control logic to produce a drive able to fulfil users' expectations of reliability, profitability and adaptability.
