The Electric Drive with Mechanical Simplicity
The new Varmeca is a motor with some simple but clever circuitry in the terminal box and a large knob on the outside with which to control the speed.
No coincidence that the motors are green
As the technology of motors, bearings, ventilation and design techniques continue to improve so will the efficiency of electric motors; Leroy Somer is determined to stay ahead in the race.
The motor and gearbox unit is hygienic in use, enabling food processors to comply with relevant Health and Safety regulations.
It is exceptionally easy to clean, with all unnecessary machining on the cases removed to minimise the areas that could retain water after wash- down.
Certified USDA H1 lubricant is used throughout, with the option of H2.

A more reliable brake motor design
Leroy Somer introduces the new FCR range of Brake Motors with power ratings from 0.25 to 132KW, a simple, inexpensive but reliable solution for stopping machinery quickly.
Floor cleaner motor cost cut by open frame design
When rotary floor cleaning machine manufacturer Truvox was developing its new Orbis range, the company turned to Leroy-Somer for the heart of the machine - the motor.
The 2000 IA also includes a range of measures, including reinforced waterproofing on mechanical components, to enable it to resist the corrosion that can result from frequent washings, high pressure cleaning, contact with harsh products or operation in humid environments.
Fretting corrosion has been eliminated by the use of grease reserve lubrication and a hollow shaft with waterproof cover.
The special white epoxy paint provides a durable and attractive finish, which is complemented by stainless steel nuts, bolts and ID plates.
Lockwashers and snap rings are used throughout to speed dismantling and re-assembly.
Special attention has been paid to the electrical connections, and the terminal box cover uses a nitrile seal to keep the connections dry.
The connector is rated IP68 - the highest possible rating for protection against ingress of water or solid particles.
The Multibloc 2000 range of gearboxes uses a worm and gear arrangement to adapt the motor speed to that of the machinery it is driving.
The gearbox is designed for use with variable or fixed speed motors and is particularly suitable for applications that require high torque outputs at low speeds.
The unit provides a higher torque at lower speed than would be possible using a variable speed drive alone.
The option of controlling the motor speed is also available by installing Leroy Somer's Varmeca integral variable speed drive, as shown in the picture.
The 2000 IA range includes six sizes of motor and gearbox combination with rated output torque from 30 to 1500 Nm.
There are 11 reduction ratios available from 1:5.2 to 1:100 and operating efficiencies range from 55 to 85% depending on the application.
All the gearboxes are very quiet in operation.
Leroy Somer specialises in the manufacturer of electro-mechanical and electronic drive systems for a wide range of industries.
The new Multibloc 2000 IA combines the cost-effectiveness, flexibility and durability of the popular Multibloc 2000 range of standard gearboxes with a host of new features to make it the ideal solution for even the most demanding applications found in the food industry.
