Following the introduction of its new ATEX range of motors for use in dusty areas, Leroy Somer has obtained independent Zone 21 certification for its motor and gearbox products.

Leroy Somer believes that it is the only manufacturer to have used a notified body for this testing, rather than the self-certified route.

Also certified for use in Zone 21 areas, is the Varmeca range of motors and motor-gearboxes with integral variable speed drive up to 4kW.

It also believes these to be the only integrated motor/drive units certified as suitable for these areas.

Manufacturers can nominate to self-certify their products, but Leroy Somer choose the more demanding route by submitting them to a notified body for certification.

This success underlines the confidence that it has in the superiority of its designs and manufacturing procedures.

LSPX and FLSPX motors are designed to operate in silos or other storage areas that can release flammable dust or in atmospheres where explosions can occur due to a mixture of air and dust.

They comply with the essential health and safety requirements in the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.

When selecting products for hazardous areas, users can be confident that Leroy Somer motors will perform efficiently and reliably.

The independent certification of its Zone 21 products simply enhances its long-standing reputation for quality and reliability.
