Drive goes to the point of control
A new drive lets users take motor control right to the heart of their application - eliminating the need for control cabinets and cable runs within some of the most hostile manufacturing environments.
The Proxidrive from Leroy Somer allows users to take motor control right to the heart of their application - eliminating the need for control cabinets and cable runs within some of the most hostile manufacturing environments Rated to IP66, the Proxidrive is completely sealed against water and dust

The Electric Drive with Mechanical Simplicity
The new Varmeca is a motor with some simple but clever circuitry in the terminal box and a large knob on the outside with which to control the speed.
No coincidence that the motors are green
As the technology of motors, bearings, ventilation and design techniques continue to improve so will the efficiency of electric motors; Leroy Somer is determined to stay ahead in the race.
It also exhibits IK08 - a level of shock resistance enjoyed by many electric motors.
These features, in combination with its advanced functionality and motor control capabilities make it an ideal choice for applications where environmental conditions hinder the operation of traditional off-the-shelf hardware.
Increased reliability and lower component counts also result from the next-to-motor mounting capabilities.

A more reliable brake motor design
Leroy Somer introduces the new FCR range of Brake Motors with power ratings from 0.25 to 132KW, a simple, inexpensive but reliable solution for stopping machinery quickly.
Floor cleaner motor cost cut by open frame design
When rotary floor cleaning machine manufacturer Truvox was developing its new Orbis range, the company turned to Leroy-Somer for the heart of the machine - the motor.
The Proxidrive was designed with the demands of the food industry in mind.
Its smooth surfaces, reduced surface tensions and enclosure angles (slopes greater than 3 degrees and radii above 6mm) are easily cleaned and resist build up of dust - in accordance with criteria published by EHEDG and the FDA.
It offers users a number of advanced features that will satisfy the majority of decentralised drive installations.
It can perform speed variation using both open- and closed-loop flux vector control.
Communication is via 20 programmable analogue and digital I/Os, and the unit can converse with other automation elements across a number of leading fieldbus protocols - including Profibus and DeviceNet.
It is also included in the UK Government's ECA technology list for energy efficient products, and so end users can claim the capital allowance back at a faster rate than normal.
Further functionality is readily available due to its ability to offer a number of PLC function blocks - allowing machine automation to be programmed directly from the Proxidrive.
Users can also take advantage of Leroy-Somer's XPress Key - a memory key that allows the transfer of setup programs from one drive to another using a simple press of a button.
Other features that are especially useful for automation applications include: an integrated disconnect ability, without the need for a line contactor; a brake motors contactor; an EMC filter that conforms to Class A; and a lockable disconnect.
For more elaborate systems, Leroy-Somer offers a prewired IP66 NEMA 4X control unit.
By addressing aggressive environments and the need for decentralised control, the Proxidrive from Leroy-Somer offers many manufacturers an all-in-one solution to some of the most demanding industrial applications.
