Laser barrel sensor rejects ambient changes
A new laser barrel sensor will appeal to companies developing and building automated conveying systems.
The new Leuze Mayser 318 laser barrel sensor will appeal to companies developing and building automated conveying systems.
Its exceptionally high switching frequency of 5kHz allows precise positioning and detection of objects, and the hollow barrel design means its accuracy is unaffected by changes in ambient fluctuations.
Other key features pertinent to designers of handling and conveying systems is the M18 plastic housing which is believed to be the world's shortest for this type of device and the optic options allowing the 318 sensor to be mounted either vertically or horizontally.
These significant benefits enable the new 318 sensor to be mounted where access is restricted and within the confines of the actual conveyor, reducing the risk of sensor damage due to other activity in the vicinity of the sensor.
The new barrel sensor is available in three formats: through-beam for sensing over distances up to 120m is the standard model or Leuze Mayser can supply a high resolution version covering 18m for the detection of small objects, a polarised retroreflective sensor for distances of 15m, and where sensing is up to 35cm there is a diffuse-reflective sensor.
For each sensor type the laser beam geometry, which is convergent and fix focussed, has been optimised to achieve the very best performance from this compact design of optical sensor.
In addition to the plastic housed 318 barrel sensors, there is also a stainless steel model, both sensors designed with extremely good sealing qualities preventing penetration of water and humidity.
These features open up the use of the 318 laser barrel sensor to a host of industrial applications where, despite a rough environment, the sensor's accuracy and performance is maintained.
The new plastic barrel sensor from Leuze Mayser is the latest addition to a growing family of optoelectronic sensors engineered specially for helping improve the efficiency of automated handling systems.
