Sensors handle damaged bar codes

A Leuze Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 12, 2008

The code reconstruction technology of the 500i gathers data from several high-speed passes.

Leuze Mayser's BCL 500i series of bar code readers is suitable for monitoring the high-speed flow of individual components, cartons or pallets, handling bar codes that are skewed, damaged or dirty.

The readers offer code reconstruction, integrated field bus connectivity and simplified installations without the need to interface units or gateways.

Unlike simple scanning systems where the full bar code is recognised by a single continuous scan, the code reconstruction technology of the 500i gathers data from several high-speed passes.

The lens developed was developed specifically for use in the BCL 500i barcode reader, giving it a +/-30 degrees asymmetrical optical angle of aperture creating a large scanning field even at close range.

It has an adjustable scanning rate of 800 to 1200 scans per second and a reading field of 200 by 1600mm, making it suitable for high-speed handling and transfer applications.

A 32bit network controller allows simplified wiring and a higher data rate, eliminating bottlenecks caused by additional interfacing units or gateways.

The device can be fully parameterised using the field bus directly via the control system.

Alternatively it can be addressed via a USB interface.

Web-Config parameterisation software offers menu and operator prompting and allows communication via any web browser.

This does away with the effort involved in maintaining and updating external parameterisation and configuration software on service laptops.

A USB memory stick can be used as an external parameter memory with simultaneous capability for performing documentation and monitoring functions.
