Leuze scanners detect minimal contrasts

A Leuze Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 5, 2009

Leuze Electronic's has expanded its range of contrast scanners with devices enclosed within the company's 3 Series housing, which measures 32mm in height by 11mm in width.

The KRT 3B series of contrast scanners distinguishes between grey-scale values to detect minimal contrasts and thus check for the presence of text, imprints, splices or location marks.

With response times of up to 50us and high repeatability, the scanners have extensive configuration options including IO link that enables simple and reproducible onsite configuration, according to Leuze.

RGB light, white light and laser light versions are all available in the small 3 Series housing, and the sensors have also been released within the larger stainless-steel Wash-Down and Hygiene housings.

Three teach options are available to suit every type of machine and application: two-point teach, static one-point teach and dynamic two-point teach.

The switching thresholds ascertained via teach-in can be changed during running operation in four per cent increments with Easytune.

This online switching-threshold correction, provides quick response to changed process parameters without needing to perform a new teach-in.

Another feature is Yellowboost, a form of yellow support developed by Leuze Electronic with which contrast detection of the white-light contrast scanner is optimised.

Although this affects all wavelengths, smoothing of the signal deviation is strongest in the yellow-light range.
