The EP449 detector set allows users to listen for technical malfunctions in car engines, gearboxes, rear-axle assemblies, bearings and many other movable parts.

The EP449 has an electronic stethoscope with four channels and is suitable for any garage that needs to make a fast and precise diagnosis of a mechanical problem.

The EP449 electronic handheld unit is connected to a stethoscope sensor or up to four sensors (clips), according to the task.

The sensors ignore ambient noise, and only pick up mechanical noise and vibration.

So, for example, the sensors will allow an operator to drive a car while listening to each of the four wheel bearings in turn.

It is important to mount the sensor to as close as possible the part to be listened to.

If for example it is the rear-axle assembly, the clip is mounted on a bolt, a fitting or something else over which it can be clamped.

The clip may also be secured with a strip.

The cable is then mounted with strips along the underbody and led into the car.

(As the cable is thin and flexible it can normally go in by the seal moulding; the door can then be shut over the cable).

Operating the EP449 is very simple.

After mounting, the sensors are connected to the four inputs of the device and the headphone is attached.

The EP449 is then switched on and the changeover switch is set to the required channel and the volume of the headphone is adjusted to suit the user.

Alternatively, the stethoscope sensor can be connected to any one of the four inputs together with the short assembling cable.

The set comes with five cables (two each of 2.5 and 5m length and one 1m cable).

The stethoscope sensor is ideal for listening to generator bearings, water pumps and other engine parts.
