Ultrasonic detector predicts bearing failure

A Logis-Tech Associates product story

Many of the costs and problems that result from defective and/or failed bearings can be prevented with a carefully implemented predictive and preventive maintenance programme.

Some of the most critical components in any industrial plant are "bearings".

Bearings are mechanical components used to reduce friction and provide load support for linear or rotary equipment.

A single bearing failure can cause many hours of downtime.

The identification and replacement of the failed component can also take considerable time.

From statistical knowledge it has been shown that 30% of bearings have defects at the beginning of their lifecycle.

This is due to faulty installation or machine flaws such as shaft misalignment.

Secondly, installation defects reduce the predicted lifetime of a bearing 2-5x and finally many of the costs and problems that result from defective and/or failed bearings can be prevented with a carefully implemented predictive and preventive maintenance programme.

The EP2400 ultrasonic detector set is a portable, handheld, device with a stethoscope that can be used to check and recheck bearings at the very beginning to verify that installation is correct, and provide the earliest indication of defects.
